The Australian government legalized medical cannabis in 2016. Through legalization, Australians in all states are able to access medical cannabis if they meet eligibility criteria.

Can I grow my own cannabis for medical purposes?

Medical cannabis patients are currently not allowed to grow their own cannabis, even for medical purposes. In order to obtain medicinal cannabis, a patient must access it through an authorized prescriber or via a TGA Special Access Scheme.

Is Cannabis Safe? Can I Overdose on Cannabis?

Cannabis is known to be a relatively safe plant for consumption. Even at high volumes, cannabis usage has been found to be non-fatal.

What illnesses are eligible for medical cannabis?

Registered medical practitioners may apply for any medical condition with the proper clinical justification, each application will be assessed on a case by case basis.

Patients interested in access medical cannabis in Tasmania can do so through the Tasmanian Government Controlled Access Scheme (CAS)Currently, medical cannabis costs are not covered by the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS). Tasmanians are only required to pay their PBS patient co-payment.
